Hagan Jordan - Chief Commercial Officer, Modify Health, 25 May 2021

ModifyHealth is the first Monash certified low FODMAP meal delivery service in the US.

In July 2019, ModifyHealth launched the first Monash certified low FODMAP meal delivery service in the United States. Since then, they have grown tremendously and they now ship their low FODMAP meals to all 50 US states. They were recently named “Best Low FODMAP” meal delivery by Healthline¹ and “Best Low FODMAP Meal Delivery Service” by Meal Plan Pros².

ModifyHealth’s team of expert chefs and dietitians work together to create a variety of delicious, healthy meals for people looking to gain relief from conditions like IBS, SIBO, IBD, and celiac disease. They offer many low FODMAP entrées on their weekly menu, many of which are Monash low FODMAP certified. All meals are freshly prepared, non-GMO, organic and gluten-free.

We spoke to Hagan Jordan, Chief Commercial Offer at ModifyHealth, to learn more.

Tell us about the ModifyHealth team and why you chose to start the company?

We started ModifyHealth to solve a problem we had experienced. The entire founding team has been personally impacted by chronic digestive conditions like IBS, SIBO, IBD, and celiac disease. We’ve seen both the negative effects of these conditions on quality of life as well as the positive impact food as medicine can have. We know how hard it can be to make ongoing, consistent changes to diet and lifestyle and we started ModifyHealth to help make an impact.

We set out to create a company that took the very popular concept of home-delivered meals and reimagined it to be medically focused by harnessing the power of food for chronic diseases. We agree with the axiom, “food is the best medicine.”

Tell us more about your low FODMAP meal service.

We help healthcare providers and patients make low FODMAP simpler and more effective.

We provide home delivered low FODMAP entrees and optional coaching and support. Our service is the perfect option for everyone, no matter where they are on their FODMAP journey.

Healthcare providers such as gastroenterologists and dietitians refer our service to help make the low FODMAP diet simpler for their patients. Our meals serve as a convenient baseline all the way through the elimination, reintroduction and personalization phases of the diet.

We’ve shown people that the low FODMAP diet can be simple, convenient, and delicious with a lot of variety.

Tell us more about how your low FODMAP meals are created.

It’s quite an extensive process but extremely important to ensure that our meals comply with the requirements of our customers.

Our meals are originally crafted by our team of chefs and expert dietitians, including world-renowned FODMAP expert Patsy Catsos, LD, RDN. The meals go through an extensive design, review and testing process to not only ensure low FODMAP compliance but to also prevent low FODMAP stacking.

Once the meals are reviewed and approved by our internal chef and dietitian team, select meals are sent to the team at Monash University to be reviewed and certified as low FODMAP.

Tell us about the preparation process for your customers.

All meals arrive fully prepared in a refrigerated, eco-friendly box. From there, our customers simply place the meals in their refrigerator where they are fresh for 7-10 days, on average, or they can freeze the meals for up to 3 months.

There is no preparation. You simply “heat and eat” and can use an oven, stove top, or microwave to heat the entrees.

All components in our packaging are recyclable, including the packaging, insulation and trays.

How do people hear about your service?

Our customers typically hear about our service from their healthcare provider (gastroenterologist, dietitian, etc.) who refers them to us for support. For others, their healthcare provider will recommend a low FODMAP diet and when they go home and start researching, they find a service like ours and fall in love with how we can help make the low FODMAP diet easier for them.

That said, you don’t need a referral from your healthcare provider to use our service. Anyone can visit our website at to setup their account. We also offer a service where someone in the US can simply text ‘FODMAP’ to 484848 to schedule a free initial discovery call with one of our clinical educators.

What has the feedback been like since you launched?

The response has been fantastic. We receive emails weekly from patients saying “The low FODMAP diet and this service have changed my life. I feel so much better.” At the end of the day, it’s why we do what we do and we’re so thankful for the impact we get to make.

Our average customer reports a 120-point improvement (or a 65% improvement) in their IBS Symptom Severity Score (IBS-SSS).  For many, this is lifechanging and allows them to miss less days of work or spend more time with their family and friends without worrying about their IBS symptoms.

Tell us about the cost of your meals and service.

Our meals are very affordable. We get feedback from customers that the cost of our service is more than worth it when you factor in the quality of the food and the time it saves in meal prep and stress.

Our breakfast entrees are $7.95 USD and lunch/dinner entrees are $11.75 USD. This pricing includes free nationwide shipping.

While our service is subscription-based, there is no long-term commitment. Our customers can skip a weekly delivery, pause or cancel their subscription at any time. It’s all in their control. We’re committed to providing the best experience possible.
