The GASTRODIET conferences have been a series of international scientific meetings generated by the Monash Translational Nutrition team to bridge the gap between diet/nutrition and gastrointestinal health. Previous meetings have been held in the Monash University facility in Prato, Italy, and have covered a wide range of topics of relevance to gastroenterologists, scientists and dietitians working in the gastrointestinal space. At the last Prato meeting in 2023, dietitians and gastroenterologists who attended from the Asia-Pacific region requested that the meeting be held within Asia and offer educational opportunities for filling a huge deficiency in the training of dietitians and gastroenterologists alike in clinical practice. Hence, GASTRODIET2024 was developed to be held at the Monash University campus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
GASTRODIET2024 was only possible because of the sponsorship of The Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation (JGHF), which fosters research, education and training in gastroenterology and hepatology. While the Foundation has generously supported previous meetings, it asked if we could fully sponsor 50 dietitians involved in gastroenterology from across Asia with the notion that the meeting will be a ‘train-the-trainer’ affair. In other words, their learnings from the meeting will form a strong base for teaching others in their own countries, with subsequent enhancement of the application of evidence-based nutritional and dietetic management of gastroenterological patients and of the quality of dietetic teaching. This fulfils the vision of the JGH Foundation and of the Monash University Translational Nutrition team to enhance the practice of gastroenterology across the Asia-Pacific.
We hope that you enjoy this 'virtual' version of GASTRODIET2024.
