The 5 module course is written with patients in mind, so there’s no jargon or complex language. We simply teach you in plain English about everything you need to know to understand your condition and to manage your symptoms using a FODMAP diet.
The course covers all the essential topics including:
- The importance of getting an accurate diagnosis of IBS
- What are FODMAPs and where are they found?
- How to implement Steps 1, 2 and 3 of the FODMAP diet
- Understanding whether your IBS symptoms are sensitive to FODMAPs
- What to do if your IBS symptoms do not improve on a low FODMAP diet
- Other therapies to help manage IBS symptoms.
Interactive elements are included all throughout the course, including videos, infographics, question-answer flip cards, sorting activities and interactive charts.
Because the course is delivered online, patients from all over the world can learn from the experts who pioneered FODMAP research at Monash University. You can also learn at your own pace, over 12 months and in the comfort of your own home.
Module 1 - Understanding IBS
Learn everything you need to know about IBS, including symptoms, causes, the importance of getting a proper medical diagnosis, red flags symptoms, common tests and treatment options.
Module 2 - Introduction to FODMAPs
Learn what FODMAPs are, where they are found (including use of the Monash FODMAP App) and how a 3 step FODMAP diet can reduce IBS symptoms.
Module 3 - Step 1 low FODMAP diet
Learn how to implement a low FODMAP diet (step 1 of the diet), including label reading, shopping, healthy low FODMAP eating, recipe modification and how to manage eating out and travel.
Module 4 - FODMAP reintroduction
Learn how to reintroduce FODMAPs (step 2 of the diet), including a step by step guide to how to complete food challenges and use the 'Diary' feature of the Monash FODMAP App to record and assess your symptom response during reintroduction.
Module 5 - FODMAP personalization
Learn how to personalize your FODMAP diet in the longer term (step 3 of the diet) based on how you responded to food challenges completed during reintroduction. You will also learn about alternative, evidence-based IBS therapies if the FODMAP diet didn't work for you.
