Tell us a little about yourself and how you started A Little Bit Yummy
Alana: My FODMAP journey started in 2014 when I was really unwell with my gut issues - I was struggling to leave the house as I was scared to be too far from the toilet. At the time, I was working with a dietitian and she placed me on a low FODMAP diet. The FODMAP diet worked like magic and within a couple of weeks, I had much better symptom control.
However, I still remember what it was like trying to start the low FODMAP diet. I ended up standing in the middle of the grocery store crying because I couldn’t figure out what to eat. It all felt so overwhelming and like I had to give up all the foods I loved.
I didn’t want anyone else to feel that way, so I launched A Little Bit Yummy - a safe online space for people with gut issues who needed yummy low FODMAP recipes and extra resources.
Since launching in 2014, I’ve worked with an international team of FODMAP-trained dietitians to create hundreds of low FODMAP recipes and resources to guide people through the low FODMAP diet process and help them find their food joy again.
Tell us a bit about how your recipes are created
Alana: All of our low FODMAP recipes are developed in our test kitchen and are taste tested by myself, my family and my friends. We believe good food is simple food and focus on using simple and fresh ingredients that are readily available around the world. Each recipe is developed using the low FODMAP serving size information found in the Monash University FODMAP Diet App. In addition, our range of Monash FODMAP Certified recipes have been assessed by the team at Monash University to confirm that they meet Monash’s low FODMAP criteria.
